MAMERTINO DOC
The Mamertino has a noble and ancient history that connects its production to one of the most important historical periods of our country, the Roman Empire. Ateneo (third century AD) defined the Mamertino as ” sweet and robust ,” (first century AD) He said that the Mamertino belongs among the excellent Italian wines and Plinio il Vecchior (First century AD) put it in fourth place among the 195 finest wines of Italy in the first century AD; Marziale then praised him: “Give the Mamertino the name you wish perhaps a most famous one .” This wine is considered to be one among the best wines in commerce and since 2004 by acquiring the DOC de nomination its production is set under strong production rules and guidelines of the production’s thecnical policy.

ETNA DOC
The Etna DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata, a classification used to signify and protect Italy’s most important terroirs) can be found in Sicily’s far-east corner, hugging the neck of Mount Etna—Europe’s largest active volcano—like a shirt collar. Mount Etna is one of sixteen volcanoes in the world that is said to pose a high risk to life and property, according to the UN. On a good day it spews ash and steam, and on a bad day a lava flow can threaten to pave over the DOC’s vineyard sites. It’s an ominous place, one that makes the Jurassic Period seem as though it wasn’t all that long ago. Even now, a dinosaur or two moping about at the foot of Mt. Etna wouldn’t seem entirely out of place. But as primitive as it may look, there’s no mistaking that Etna is well into a high renaissance.
The vineyards that have managed to survive decades of volcanic eruptions and abandonment are—at well over 100 years old—ancient by European standards. Most of the continent’s vines were destroyed by the Phylloxera epidemic in the late 1800s, and many were not replanted for decades after the devastation. Ironically, Etna’s vineyards ultimately owe their resilience to the very thing that can—and has—destroyed them: Mt. Etna’s volcanic soil, which is resistant to the phylloxera root pest.
DOCG CERASUOLO DI VITTORIA
The territory that gives to the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG has always been giving wines of extraordinary flavour, thanks to its peculiar fertility
and mediterranean features as the proximity of the sea to the hills, filled with secular olive trees and majestic carrubbo trees. The countryside is at the same time rugged and gentle, the fertile plain areas lean sweetly toward low and uniform coasts, webs of dry stone walls delimit the fields and blend into the dunes, the cliffs stand out against the crystal blue sea. That is a unique territory.
The landscape is kissed by the sun, exposed to marine breeze in mild temperatures and gives extraordinary grapes. The northern natural boundary of the area follows the Erei mounts, the southern the Mediterranean sea, the eastern the Iblei mounts and the western the hills of Caltanissetta province.
The Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG fineness is due to the magic climate of the area, the temperature range in veraison and harvest period, the scarce precipitations during summer, together with the multiplicity and succession of the soil (clay, sandy-loamy, limestone soils) and heighs (from sea level to 500 mt above it). The soils are ideal for autoctone grapes that give the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOGS, local wine “par excellence”, it is strongly tied to the powerful beauty of the vines, landscape and winery of the region of origin.
Along ancient bagli (fortified farms surrounded by mighty walls) ultramodern wineries blend perfectly into the landscape, thanks to the sustainable development policy adopted by producers in creating one agricultural comprensorio (a district that comprises lands of different nature and proprietors but with a unique purpose) famous in the world.
